Master Programmes

sam-6

The research-oriented Master programmes of the DRD have been cooperating for years and generate their courses from the disciplines of economics and social science (particularly macroeconomics and political science) and the administrative sciences. Courses are supplemented with substantial inputs from the fields of project management and empirical social research. The programmes are theory-based with a strong empirical focus. More specific information about about individual Master Programmes at the DRD is available here:

PhD Programme

3dSince 2007 the IEE runs the international English-language programme PhD in International Development Studies (PhD IDS). It is a structured PhD-program with a strong interdisciplinary and international focus. This PhD IDS is offered as part of the DRD's academic programmes. Though it is not a long-standing traditional in Germany and South Africa respectively approach  to offer structured PhD programmes the experience has shown that such kind of PhD programmes help to strenghten an interdisciplinary perspective and to reduce the time needed for completion of PhD studies. One major long term aim of the DRD is therefore the establishment of a structured PhD option at the centre.

Candidates applying for PhD studies at the DRD will have already the opportunity to follow such a structured PhD programme through taking part in coursework of the PhD IDS.

More specific information about the PhD option of the DRD is available here:
